The Egyptian and the French navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 3 July 1827

Paris, 29 June. The newspaper Journal des Débats published some tidings from her correspondent at Marseille dated 21 June. At Marseille arrived a ship, which left Alexandria 31 May with on board 157 men, belonging to the crew of the frigate Guerriere, which latter ship recently was send from Marseille to the Pasha of Egypt. The same day departed 4 French ships escorted by an Austrian brig, leaving rear admiral De Rigny behind, who was involved in important meetings with the Egyptian government. Rumours were according to a letter that De Rigny made the Pasha clear that he objected to the departure of the Egyptian fleet towards Morea. Agents of the Pasha which were apparently known with this rumours didn’t say anything, and didn’t do anything, presumably by lacking finances.
