For years was in the Netherlands a magazine published dealing with maritime affairs. It contained notes dealing with the Royal Dutch Navy and the Dutch merchant shipping/trade, but also supplied information dealing with foreign navies, especially of France and Great Britain. Occasionally we can find information dealing with the navies of other countries Russia, United States or even Mexico. The text dealing with Mexico was apparently original published in the Ann. Marit, August 1845. There were two steamships, the Guadeloupe of 788 ton, armed with 268 pdr grenade guns, 4-12pdr and a launcher for rockets and the Montezuma of 1100 ton, armed with 1-68pdr grenade gun, 2 long 32pdrm 2-32pdr mortars, 2-32pdr carronades and a launcher for rockets. There were also sailing ships, namely 3 brigs, 3 schooners and 4 gun sloops. The brig Mexian, armed with a 12 pdr grenade gun and 14-8pdr carronades; brig Vera-Cruz-Libre, armed with 1-36pdr grenade gun, 6-12pdr and , 2-12pdr carronades; brig Tempoaltica, armed with 12-6pdr carronades, schooner Aigle, with 1-32pdr grenade gun and 6-18pdr carronades,; schooner Liberté, 1-12pdr grenade gun and the schooner Morelos, armed with 1-12pdr grenade gun. The 4 gun sloops were each armed with a long 24 pdr fitted on a pivot. All ships were ill armed and with to small crews, and except the steamships and gun sloops needing large repairs before they could depart towards sea.
