The Hague, 4 August. According to tidings from the Dutch East Indies dated until the second half of April were again pirates sighted for instance in the waters around the Moluccas. Off Ternate succeeded a native patrol vessel to beat off 5 pirates. The pirates of Mangindano intended according to one tiding to collect their whole force of around 200 vessels (included a captured European vessel) off Celebes to seek for revenge for their defeats in last year or even to capture the Dutch steam vessel which fought with them. The rear admiral Machielsen, commanding officer of the Dutch naval force in the Dutch East Indies departed when he heard of this tiding with the steamship Zr. Ms. Phoenix towards Makasser. (1) The brig Zr. Ms. Siewa lieutenant 1st class P. Sauvage struck on a reef north of Poeloekarang near Baros, Sumatra and was lost. (1) The crew and part of the rigging was saved. The master of the Portuguese ship Margarida F.A. d'Aquino was convicted by the court of justice at Batavia and condemned to 5 year in prison and then banished for a period of 20 years.
