From Toulon left 11 September two French bomb galliots and a brig towards the Mexican coasts. Several other warships were fitted out to follow them or all ready left Cadiz and other harbours with the same destination. It was expected that within short time 26 French warships were collected in the Gulf of Mexico with the intention to attack and so to force the Mexican government to accept the French terms. In extra ordinary tidings from Paris was reported that the British representatives complained heavily about the damage which the British trade suffered caused by the French blockade of Mexico.
