The French navy in action against pirates off Scopoli according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 21 and 22 October 1824

Smirna, 2 September. The French ship la Jeune Rose Melanie which left Salonica towards Alexandria was off Scopoli attacked by pirates. From her master was 6.000 piasters stolen, 6 Turkish passengers taken prisoner and afterwards were her master and sailors tied up and a hole in the bottom of the ship drilled causing her sinking and drowning of her crew. Just one sailor managed to escape and arrived safely at Smirna informing there the French consul. Captain Droualt stationed in the Levant left immediately with the frigate la Galatée and the goelette l’Amarante to search for the pirates with on board the only survivor of the merchant ship namely the second captain Bonis.
