Dutch guard ship Gedeh at Batavia, Dutch East Indies harassed by termites according to the Colonial account over 1886

An item reported that the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Gedeh serving as guard ship at Batavia, Dutch East Indies was harassed by termites and which caused the replacement of the wooden masts by iron ones.(1)

1. Flush-decked corvette laid down in 1872 at Surabaya, Dutch East Indies and launched in 1874/ Wood-built and coppered with a displacement of 1,420 tons and as dimensions 69,00 (between perpendiculars) x 17,00 (over all) x 3,75 (maximum aft) metres. and an armament of 6-12cm guns, 1-7,5cm gun and 2-3,7cm guns. Tonnage in tons of 2,83 cubic metres 1.710,3 gross and 1.625 net.  In 1885 consisted her crew of 122 Europeans and 35 natives. Her armament that year consisted of 10-30 pd guns no. 11. She was then guard ship at Batavia for the Indies Military Navy. In 1893 armed with 6 guns. She was docked in December 1893 at Tandjong Priok to be cleaned and repaired. In 1899 condemned and broken up.
