German bark Gerhard bought by Dutch firm De Groof&Co. at Vlissingen, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 28 September 1887

An item reported that De Groof&Co. at Vlissingen, Netherlands bought the in 1860 built and 909 register tons large bark ship Gerhard from J.H. Rachmann, Bremen, Germany. The Vlissingse Courant of the 29th reported that they paid 19.000 mark for the ship now lying at Geestemünde.(1) She was to become Netherlands-flagged for their own account.

1. Renamed Gerhardus. Since 1892 (?) property of H.R. Engelsman, Stadskanaal, Netherlands. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 25 January 1897 published an item dated London the 24th reporting that a telegram from New Orleans, USA was received reporting that she was stranded and lost on Timbilier Island. At that moment was she loaded with timber. Her captain Engelsman and his crew were saved. She arrived on 16 November 1896 at Sabina Pas coming from Rotterdam.
