Russian submarine B-80 of the Zulu-class 1956

The Soviet Navy’s project 611 attack submarines were by the NATO known as the Zulu-class. The German type XXY U-boat built in 1943-1945 was used as a base for Project 611 which on her turn was succeeded by the Foxtrot-class. Between 1952 and 1957 were 25 units built at Leningrad or Severodvinsk. The B-80 was laid down on 1 February 1956 at Severodvinsk with yard number 402, accepted by the navy on 30 July and on the official navy list, under supervision of the navy on 26 January 1957 launched, on 13 July commissioned and stricken in April 1990.
