Dutch ship Kosmopoliet transported troops to the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Samarangsch advertentie-blad dated 8 January 1858

An item reported the arrival on 28 December 1857 at Batavia, Dutch East Indies of the Dutch ship Kosmopoliet captain J. Bouten after a voyage coming from the Netherlands in 71 days to Sunda Strait and 74 days to Batavia. On board was a detachment of 125 non-commissioned officers and soldiers of which jumped over board off the island Amsterdam probably due to mental illness. The detachment was commanded by lieutenant colonel Engelenburg accompanied by 1st infantry lieutenant Schwartz, 2nd artillery lieutenant Geij van Pittius, 2nd engineer lieutenant Carlier and officer of health 3rd class Visscher. On the 29th was the detachment disembarked and marched to Weltevreeden.
