Dutch merchant ship J. Nienhuys bough by Dutch government to be used as ammunition ship in the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated 5 May 1904

An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies dated 7 April reported that as result of the situation in East Asia the Dutch government want to prepare for all emergency scenarios.(1) One of the results was the purchase of the steamship Nienhuys of the Koninklijke Paketvaartmaatschappij to rebuilt it as an ammunition ship for the navy.(1) She measured 515 tons and was built in 1889. She was earlier sold to Mr. v.E., Surabaya, Dutch East Indies who however dispended the sale.

Fabriek van Stoom&Andere Werktuigen, Amsterdam, Netherlands and bought by the KPM form the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Deli, Medan. Scuttles in 1915 during navy exercises. Het nieuws van den dag dated 18 March 1889 reported that her speed during the trial on the Nort Sea slightly loaded was 11 knots.
