British steam 1st class gun vessel HMS Eclipse visited Willemstad, Curacao according to the Dutch newspaper De Curacaosche courant dated 29 August 1874

An item reported the departure from Willemstad, Curacao on Tuesday the 25th of the British steam warship HMS Eclipse commanded by Erskins towards Santa Martha.(1)

1. 1st Class barque rigged screw steam gun vessel of the Cormorant-class with as general specifications a displacement of 877 tons, a builders measurement of 694 66/94 tons burthen and as dimensions 50,5 (keel)-56,4 (over all0 x 8,6 x 3,4-3,7 x 4,3 (depth of hold) metres or 167’7¼”-185’0” x 28’4”x 14’0’x 11’-12’. With a speed of 11 knots, a crew numbering 90 men consisted the armament of 1-7”/110pd Armstrong gun, 1-68pd smoothbore gun and 2-20pd Armstrong guns, all breech loading guns except for the 68-pdr. The building of the Eclipse at the shipyard of J. Scott Russell&Co., Mitchell, England was ordered on 14 June 1859, laid down on 8 August, launched on 18 September 1860, decommissioned 8167 and the same year in July broken up at Sheerness. England.
