Austrian, British, French and Sardinian warships stationed at Alexandria, Egypt according to the Dutch newspaper Goesche Courant dated 27 April 1840

According to a tiding dated Aleandria, Egypt 27 March was the there recently arrived British steamboat Gorgone (1) now stationed just like the British corvette HMS Daphne which later arrived. Most foreign consuls asked their governments to sent warships for protection as they an attack feared. In the meantime arrived a Sardinian and an Austrian corvette with a French corvette lying in the harbour since two months.

1. Probably the paddle steam frigate Gorgon, a former 5th rate, launched at Pembroke Dock, England on 31 August 1837, broken up in 1864 and with an armament of 6 guns
2. Launched at Pembroke Dock, England on 6 August 1838, sold to Castle on 7 October 1864 and with an armament of 18-32pd guns.
