British screw steam corvette HMS Barossa underway from Singapore towards South Africa according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 1 March 1873

An item dated 27th February reported the passing of the Sunda Strait by the British steam warship Barrosa captain Moore leaving Singapore on the 22nd towards Cape of Good Hope, South Africa.(1)

1. Wood-built screw steam corvette of the Jason-class. Laid down at the Woolwich dockyard in August 1858, launched on 10 March 1860, completed in September 1862 and broken up in 1877. Her crew numbered 240 men. The armament consisted of 20-8” muzzle loading guns and 110pd breech loading gun mounted on a pivot.
