American screw steamship USS Marion departed Batavia, Dutch East Indies towards Serawak according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode 4 April 1893

An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies 4th reported the departure of the American warship USS Marion towards Gridley and Serawak [on Borneo, Malaysia].(1)

1. Launched at the Boston Navy Yard, USA as a sloop of war on 24 April 1839, commissioned on 11 December, decommissioned in 1871, converted into a 3rd screw steamship, commissioned on 12 January 1876, decommissioned on 11 December 1897, stricken on 14 March 1907 and sold to C.E. Boudrow, San Francisco, USA on 24 July. Her armament after she was rebuilt consisted of 1-11” Dahlgren, 6-9” Dahlgren guns, 1-60pd gun, 1-12pd howitzer and 1 Gatling gun.
