Dutch ship Suzanna/Susanna 1652-1654

Of the admiralty Amsterdam, merchant ship hired from sr. Jeremia van Collen, merchant at Amsterdam, Netherlands monthly rental price ƒ 5.000 in 1652-1654, dimensions (Amsterdam foot) 133 (prow) x 29½ (inner hull) x ?, height above hold 6¼, an armament of 28 guns and a crew numbering 100 men. Called a frigate. Commanding officer captain Daniel Jansse de Vries. Participated as part of squadron commanded by Van Galen in the Mediterranean on 14 March 1653 in the battle against the British, on 5 June in squadron commanded by commandeur Adriaen Roothaes . On 19 February 1654 arrived the order of the admiralty (dated 30 January) to pay her off. Appraised value in 1652 ƒ 35.000. She was according to the contract to be manned with at least 75 experienced sailors and 20 experienced soldiers and further more at least 5 boys. Her armament according to the contract was to consist of 28 guns (8 and 4 pd guns), actually armament was 4-12pd guns, 10-8pd guns, 6-6pd guns, 6-4pd guns, 2-3pd guns and two so-called ‘steenstukken‘ (swivels?).
