Russian 4-mast ship Mariechan visiting the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 26 January 1918

An item reported that yesterday evening a tug departed towing the Russian 4-mast ship Mariechan towards Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. Costs 24.0000 guilders.(1)

1. The edition dated 5th February published a letter from her correspondent at Bali. According to him she arrived on Wednesday afternoon coming from the USA bound for Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. Contrary winds and currents however prevented that she could continue her voyage towards her destination and she asked for a tug. On Friday morning arrived a small tug of the Java-China-Japan-lijn for this purpose. Costs 24.000 guilders. She was loaded with fertilizer coming from Chile. The newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 26 January reported her departure the evening before from Singaradja towards Surabaya. The edition of the 29th added that she was iron-built, captain Ivar Hagerstand, measurement 6.486 tons, 25 men (including 3 officers), leaving Myillancs Chile on 29 September 1917; called Marieckan. De Sumatra Post dated 29 January confirmed the arrival at Singaradja.
