American Bethlehem Steel of major importance for British submarine service according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 11 September 1919

An item referred to an article published in the British newspaper Times in which the well known Lord Fisher referred to a memorandum printed in January 1917 in which the submarine was described as the weapon of the future. Fisher look back at his career and wrote that when on 25 January 1910 left the Admiralty the Royal navy possessed 61 submarines which another 13 building. When he was again appointed in the Admiralty in October 1914 were just 51 submarines left. He immediately contacted of Mr. Schwab of the Bethlehem Steel Works and who delivered within 5 months submarines which was a record while earlier were 15 months needed to built one. The H-submarines built by Schwab left the USA unescorted to the Dardanelles where they served well. Fisher even said that the British crown should elevate Schwab in the Peerage for what he had done for England.
