German submarines harassing American Atlantic coast according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 6 June 1918

An item dated New York, USA 5th reported that according to the latest tidings three schooners were sunk. A destroyer claimed to prevent a submarine attacking a steamship on Tuesday morning. Fifteen men belonging to the crews of three ships which were temporarily held prisoner arrived on board of an American steamship to which she were handed over by the submarine. On Coney Island and other locations along the coast within the city area were all lights out as ordered by the government.
