Entrance to Portuguese and Spanish harbours for British merchant ships limited according to the Dutch newspaper Haagsche courant dated 10 October 1801

An item dated Lisbon, Portugal 15th September referred to a decision of the Prince Regent that since 30 September the entrance in Portuguese and Spanish harbours for British merchant ships was limited. As a result tried the British merchant ships to take as much as possible back to England  and to use all available ships for that purpose. It was estimated that for instance 34.000 hogsheads wine were to be transported towards England.
