Austria strengthening her navy against all odds according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 1 July 1851

An item dated Koln, Germany 27 June referred to tidings received from Vienna, Austria that the cabinet was strengthening the navy disregarding the costs. A huge part of the money coming available by the continuous decreasing the army was spent for building warships. The building of six frigates, included four steamships, was to begun immediately. Recently was the frigate Novara launched and the steam frigate Radetzky was to be completed on short notice. In 1849 was Austria hard able to protect her harbours against Sardinian warships and certainly not able to repel the Sardinian ships.
