Dutch lugger Scheveningen 213 heavily damaged in collision with German passenger ship Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 5 March 1898
An item dated Ijmuiden, Netherlands 3rd reported that the lugger Scheveningen 213 master G. Bal on Tuesday evening 09.30 o’clock collided at the North Sea with a yet unknown large steamship, apparently a passenger ships with 4 yellow funnels. Of the lugger were both masts, her rigging broken and other damaged. The steamship offered assistance which was refused. Later was the assistance accepted from the Dutch lugger 146 of Vlaardingen, Netherlands which towed her further and later handed her over to the Dutch tug Johanna Frederika which towed her into the harbour. She was now lying in the Fishery harbour waiting for orders of her company. The newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated reported that the German steamship Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse of the Norddeutsche Lloyd of Bremen, Germany. was the unknown steamship. The owner of the lugger A. de Niet was negotiating about the payment of the damage of around ƒ 4.000.
