Captain Thompson of New Providence, Bahamas active as privateer according to the Dutch newspaper Hollandsche historic courant dated 24 February 1748

An item dated Nieuw-Providential [New Providence, Bahamas?] 4th December 1747 reported that captain Thompson there a small French galley captured and fitted out as a privateer. Since then he captured a large Spanish ship bringing her into the port. On board was a large sum of piasters and a value worth 50.000 pond sterling. Since there were more captured ship brought into this harbour including 5 recaptured British vessels.
