Chilean protected cruiser Presidente Pinto 1889-1905


Her building was ordered in 1887, laid down at the shipyard Société Nouvelle des Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée, La Seyne-sur-Mer, France in 1889, launched on 4 September 1890, commissioned on 1 January 1892, Colombia tried without success to buy her in 1902 (1) and finally sunk near Quellón, Chile on 26 May 1905. With a displacement of 2.047 tons and as dimensions 81,79 x 10,896 x 4,39 metres or 268.4 x 35.9 x 14.5 feet. The horsepower of 5.400 ihp allowed a speed of 18,35 knots. Coal bunker capacity 400 ton. The armour consisted of a 5,7cm/2,25” thick deck with the casemate protected by 8,3cm/3,25”. The armament consisted of 4-15cm/5.9”/36 guns, 2-12cm/4.7”/36 guns, 2 Gattling machineguns and 3-36cm/14” torpedo tubes.
