Seriously gas accident on board of British submarine HMS A-9 according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1908-1909 no. 5

An item reported that the on 13 July the British submarine HMS A 9 which left Portland with 9 other submarines after passing Folkestone stayed behind. Leaking gasoline gasses caused the unconsciousness of 11 crewmembers. The commanding officer managed to close the gasoline pipe and the escorting cruiser HMS Aeolus took over the sick men towing the submarine to Dover. When the item was published 4 crewmembers still were in a very worse condition as a result of the accident.(1)
