British submarines active in the Baltic Sea according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 15 October 1916

An item dated London, England 15th reported that civilians of the US department for foreign affairs and naval officers were very interested in what British submarines did in the Baltic Sea. The civilians expected that this was not necessary while the USA claimed that the blockade of Germany was not sufficient and that the trade between Scandinavia and Germany was free and open. The naval officers expected that if a sufficient number of submarines was sent to the Baltic Sea, the German fleet at Kiel was blockaded becoming useless as a weapon or break out fearless with all consequences.
