American House of Representatives approved building 2 battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 23 January 1909

An item dated Washington, USA 22nd reported that the American House of Representatives approved with 158 against 108 the proposal of the naval commission to build 2 of the 4 battleships desired by the cabinet.(1)

1. The Wyoming-class consisting of the Wyoming (laid down on 9 February 1910) and Arkansas (laid down on 25 January 1910), preceded by the Florida-class and succeeded by the New York-class? Displacement 26.417 (standard)-27.680 (full load) tons and a main armament of 6x2-30.5cm/12” /50 cal Mark 7 guns. Ordered on 3 March 1909. Or the New York-class consisting of the New York (laid down on 11 September 1911) and Texas (ordered on 17 April 1911), preceded by the Wyoming-class and succeeded by the Nevada-class.
