German naval force strongest in Chinese waters according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 28 August 1900

An item referred to the newspaper Times dated 13th July reporting that when all warships of several countries were gathered in the Chinese waters the total personnel strength was to be 40.000 men. Germany with her six battleships was in fact the strongest naval force while England had just 4, Russia 3, Japan and the USA also one although the Oregon was yet not available but undergoing repairs.
