An item referred to the Naval and Military Record dated March 1924 reporting that the new French submarine Pierre Chailley was prepared at Le Havre, France for the official trials.(1) She was part of a class of submarine minelayers with as sister ships Callot, Astrée, Amaranthe, Audry and Réveillé. Dimensions 73,5 x 6,70 x 3,74 (draught) metres and as displacement 932 (surfaced)-1.300 (submerged ) tons. Armed with 4 bow torpedo tubes and 2 side torpedo tubes. The machinery consisted of 2.900 hp Carels-Schneider diesels and 1.640hp electro engines. Speed 16 miles (surfaced). With a speed of 5 miles and range of 3.000 miles. Her crew numbered 44 men. The next submarine to be delivered in 1924 by the shipyard at Cherbourg, France was to be fitted out with similar machinery although her displacement was 1.147 (surfaced)-1.440 (submerged) tons.
