Japanese cruiser Yodo 1906-1945
Of the Yodo-class consisting of the Yodo and Mogami, preceded by the Tone and succeeded by the Chikuma-class. Officially classified as aviso but in fact protected cruisers. Built under the 1904 Emergency Fleet Replenishment Program. Laid down at the Kawasaki Shipyards, Kobe, Japan on 2 October 1906, launched on 11 November 1907, commissioned on 8 April 1908, reclassified as gunboat 1st class on 12 October 1912, decommissioned on 1 April 1940, became Hulk 13 lying along a quay at Iwakuni and broken up at Hikari in 1945. Used for training and coastal patrol tasks.
Displacement 1.270 tons and as dimensions 93,1 (over all) x 9,5 x 3 metres or 305.5” x 31’2” x 9’10”. Two reciprocating vertical triple steam engines and 4 Miyabara boilers supplied 6.500 ship allowing a speed of 22 knots. With a coal bunker capacity of 339 tons and a oil bunker capacity of 76 tons. Crew numbered 116 men. The armour consisted of a 6,2cn/2.4” thick deck and the conning tower protected by 5cm/2.0” thick armour. Armament consisted of 2-4.7” Mk I-IVs quick firing guns, 4-12pd 12 cwt quick firing guns, 1 machinegun and 2-45,7cm/18” torpedo launchers.
