New Russian battleships Peresvet and Oslyabya to be built at St. Petersburg, Russia according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 9

Russian Peresvet as the Japanese Sagami

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that the 2 armoured cruisers built for the Russian navy at St. Petersburg, Russia were to be named Pereswich (1) and Osslaib (2). Dimensions 133 x 22 metres. Speed 22 miles. The armament consisted of 4-25cm guns, 8-15,2cm guns on the upper deck well protected, 6-12cm guns, some smaller guns and 6 torpedo tubes.

1. The Peresvet of the Peresvet-class battleships consisting of the Peresvet, Oslyabya and Pobeda. Laid down at the Baltic Yard, St. Petersburg, Russia on 21 November 1895, launched on 18 May 1898, building costs 10.540.000 rubles, commissioned in August 1901, scuttled by her own crew on 7 December 1904 and captured by Japan in January 1905 after Port Arthur fell in Japanese hands. After she was refloated on 29 June 1905 was she renamed as a 1st class coastal defence ship Sagami and commissioned on 20 July 1908 and sold back to Russia in March 1916. After her arrival at Vladivostok on 3 April 1916 was she again named Peresvet. Commissioned as an armoured cruiser. On a distance of around 10 nautical miles north of Port Said were two mines hit laid by the German submarine SM U-73. Heavily damaged broke a fire out and she sunk.
2. The Osylyabya of the Peresvet-class battleships consisting of the Peresvet, Oslyabya and Pobeda. Laid down at the New Admiralty Zshipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia on 21 November 1895, launched on 8 November 1898, commissioned in 1903 and sunk during the battle of Tsushima against the Japanese fleet on 27 May 1905.
