An item referred to the Hongkong Daily Express reported that the British minister Churchill (1) on behalf of the British Royal Navy the Japanese minister of navy congratulated with the actions of the Japanese navy which were an important support for the British forces not to mention the plans to destroy the principal German naval base (2) on the Pacific.

1. Presumably Tsingtao ([nowadays Qingdao], a harbour in China with entrance to the Yellow Sea occupied by Germany in 1897 and in 1898 ceded by the Chinese government. Germany based at Tsingtao her Far East Squadron, in 1914 commanded by admiral Von Spee and which was involved in the battles of Coronel and the Falkland Islands against the British navy. Japan captured the town after a siege between 31 October-7 November 1914.
