British cabinet considered founding naval base at Saldanha, South Africa according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1935 no. 2

An item referred to South African newspapers which reported that the British cabinet considered to found a navy bases at Saldanha at the African west coast on a distance of 65 miles of Cape Town. This new base was needed in case passing the Suez Canal became impossible because of war.(1)

1. In 1941 was in Saldanha Bay an Allied harbour founded to relieve the increasing use of Table Bay.
