German submarine SMS U5 damaged by fire according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 6

An item reported to the Monitor de la Flotte dated 13 September which reported that on board of the German submarine U-5 fire broke out in the diesel engines. The fire was extinguished before the fuel bunker capacity was reached. The damage however seemed to be large.(1)

1. Building ordered on 8 April 1908, laid down with yard number 147 at the Germaniawerft, Kiel on 24 August 1908, launched on 8 January 1910, commissioned on 2 July 1910 and accidentally sunk off the Belgian coast on 18 December 1914.
