British dentist invented new protection system agaist torpedoes according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1909-1910 no. 7

An item reported that a British dentist invented a new system to protect ships against torpedo attacks. It mainly consisted of a steel plates in normal circumstances tight to the hull. In circumstances where was to be feared for torpedo tubes were the plates nearly over the total length of the ship stretching below the waterlijn were brought forward creating a kind of water pillow protecting the actual hull against exploding torpedoes.
