British cruiser 2nd class HMS Arrogant executing trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1897-1898 No. 7

An item referred to the Engineering reporting that the British cruiser Arrogant (1) performed well during her 30 hours trial with a horsepower of 2.000 ihp. Boiler pressure 230 lbs, starting with 210 lbs, filling high pressure boilers 22/100 and 24/100, airless 26,6, rpm 88 and 86,9 with as results high pressure 369 and 375 ihp, medium pressure 379 and 303 ihp and low pressure 390 and 341 ihp resulting in 1.138 and 1.019 ihp and totally 2.157 ihp. Speed 12,5 miles.

A week was again a 30 hours trial planned with 7.000 ihp. The machinery was constructed by the Earle’s and Shipbuilding Company, Hull, England. The second trial was on 25 September resulting in a speed of 17,8 miles. She was fitted out with Belleville boilers. Coal consumption 0,95/hour/hp against the 1,29 kilo during the trial with 2.000 ihp. Boiler pressure 247 lbs, starting with 240 lbs, filling high pressure boilers 61/100 and 60/100, airless 27,1.6, rpm 128 and 127,4 with as results high pressure 1.157 and 1.147 ihp, medium pressure 1.225 and 1.210 ihp and low pressure 1.443 and 1.442 ihp resulting in 3.825 and 3.799 ihp and totally 7.624 ihp.

1. Of the Arrogant-class of 2nd class cruiser, preceded by the Eclipse-class and succeeded by the Pelorus-class. Laid down by Devonport Dockyard, England on 10 June 1895, launched on 26 May 1896, commissioned in 1898 and sold in 1923.
