French protected cruiser Pascal 1893-1911

Of the Descartes-class consisting of the Descartes and Pascal. Laid down by Arsenal de Toulon, France in December 1893, launched in September 1895, commissioned in January 1897 and stricken in January 1911.

Displacement 3.960 tons and as dimensions 96,32 (between perpendiculars)-99,0 (over all) x 12,98 x 6,50 metres. Machinery consisted of 2 steam engines and boilers supplying 8.500hp allowing a maximum speed of 19,5 knots. Coal bunker capacity 543 tons. Crew numbered 383 men. Armament consisted of 4x1-16,4cm cal 45 guns, 10x1-10cm cal 50 quick firing guns, 8x1-4,7cm guns, 4x1-3,7cm guns and 3-45cm torpedo tubes. Armour consisted of a steel deck with a thickness of 4,4-6cm, 5cm thick gun shields and the conning tower protected by 7cm. Wood built and coppered.
