British armoured cruiser HMS Cressy suffering problems according to the British magazine The Engineer dated 28 June 1901

An item reported that the Cressy was repaired in such a manner that she go to the harbour of Portsmouth although still very slowly. It was still unknown what caused the problems and there seems to be a reward of 500 pound promised for the solution.(1)

1. Of the Cressy-class armoured cruisers, consisting of the Cressy, Sutlej, Aboukir, Hogue, Bacchante and Euryalus, preceded by the Diadem-class and succeeded by the Drake-class. Laid down by Fairfield Shipbuilding, Govan, Scotland on 12 October 1898, launched on 4 December 1899, completed on 28 May 1901 and sunk by the German submarine U-9 on 22 September 1914. The problems to which the magazine referred was a broken down steering gear urging her to return while underway from Portsmouth, England towards the China Station.
