Varna, Bulgaria September 2017
Part of the first coastal battery consisting of 2 of such guns in 1910 located in the Pochivka area, north of Varna. Bulgaria signed on 14 January 1906 a contract with the French company Schneider-Canet for delivering 2-24cm/9.45" L/45 coastal guns. In May 1909 when the heavy weighing guns arrived was a special position of concrete to be built. The guns were positioned at Sv. Nikol which is 4 kilometres east of the town in such a manner that they could protect the palace of the Bulgarian king at Evksinograd and at the same time defend the Bay of Varna against enemy naval actions. The chosen position was a mistake and further more had the guns just a limited elecation and range.
