Japanese fleet reorganized according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1923

An item referred to the magazine Schiffbau reporting that as a result of the Washington Naval Conference the Japanese navy was reorganised.(1) There were now two fleets while the third fleet was abrogated on 1 December 1922.

The first fleet consisted of the 1st battleships squadron consisting of the Mutsu, Ise, Hyugu and Nagato, Further more the 1st torpedo squadron consisting of the Tatsute and 4 destroyer flotillas, 1st submarine flotilla and 1st fighters flotilla.

The second fleet consisted of the battle cruisers Kongo, Hiyei and Hiroshima, the 2nd torpedo squadron consisting of the Kitagami and 4 destroyer flotillas, the 1st cruisers squadron consisting of the Kuma, Tama and Oi although another claimed being part of the 1st fleet and the 2nd cruiser squadron consisting of the Kima, Yura and Nagara.

1. Result of the Washington Naval Conference between November 1921-February 1922 was the Washington Naval Treaty signed by USA, England, Japan, Italy and France to limit the building of battleships, battle cruisers and aircraft carriers and to limit the possession of such capital ships by stopping completion of breaking up already existing.
