American sloop-of-war USS Constellation 1853-

Building started in May 1853, laid down at the Norfolk Navy Yard, USA on 25 June 1853, launched on 26 August 1854, commissioned on 28 July 1855, renamed Old Constellation on 1 December 1917, renamed Constellation on 24 July 1926. Decommissioned on 16 June 1933, decommissioned on 24 August 1940, reclassified as miscellaneous unclassified (IX-20) on 8 January 1941, decommissioned on 4 February 1955 and stricken on 15 August 1955.

Displacement 1.400 tons (full load) and as dimensions 55 (waterline)-61 (over all) x 12 (waterline)-13 (maximum) x 6,4 metres or 181-199 x 41-43 x 21 feet. Crew numbered 286 men (including 21 officers). Original armament consisted of 16-20cm/8” chambered shell guns (main battery gun deck), 4-32pd long guns (main battery gun deck), 1-30pd Parrott rifle (chase gun in the bow on spar deck ), 1-20pd Parrott rifle chase gun in the stern on spar deck) and finally 3-12pd bronze boat howitzers.
