Portugal interested in acquiring cruisers according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1913 No. 3

An item reported that the Portuguese navy department opened on 15 January the registration for tenders for the building of  2 cruisers, displacement p 2.000-2.500 tons, machinery consisting of Parsons or Curtis turbines and oil-coal fuelled Yarrow water tube boilers allowing with the 3 screws a maximum speed of 20 knots. The armament consisted of 2-15cm/5.9” L/50 guns, 6-10cm/3.9” L/50 guns, 4-4,7cm/1.9” L/40 guns and 1-53cm/21” submerged torpedo tube. The armour was to consisted of an armoured deck. On 15 January was the registration for tenders opened and it were British and American companies who were interested.
