Finnish government bought tugs and floating cranes in the USA according to a CIA report dated 24 January 1947

An item reported that the Finnish government bought from the USA 24 tugs (6-650 and 13-400ihp) and 2 floating cranes on demobilisation and that in the meantime 10 tugs and 1 floating crane were delivered. The intention of the Finnish government was to sell the tugs to private companies but which was not a success while not a single tug was sold. The private companies considered the prices of 20 million Finnish Marks and 12 million Finnish Marks for respectively the large and small type far too high. The result was the government decided to convert 6 tugs into icebreakers (costs 10 million each) and to use another six as trawlers. What the intention was for the other 12 tugs was yet known. (1)
