Number of masts of French seagoing torpedo boats reduced to just one according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1904 no. 11

An item reported that from a number of the French Tourbillon (1) and Défi (2) classes torpedo boats on of the two masts as to be removed just like the torpedo boats serving in the mobile defence and mostly of the seagoing torpedo boats and destroyers. The second mast had no use and even prohibitive in handling the vessel.

1. Launched by A.C. de la Gironde, Bordeaux, France was launched on 10 October 1892, completed in 1894 and sold in 1911 was part of the Agile-class sea going torpedo boats.
2. Laid down by A.C. de la Loire, Nantes, France in 1888, launched on 29 June 1899, completed on 1899 and sold in 1911 was part of the Ouragan class sea going torpedo boats.
