American cruiser USS Fresno (CL-121) 1945-1966

Of the Juneau-class, preceded by the Fargo-class and succeeded by the Worcester-class. Laid down by the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Kearny, New Jersey on 12 February 1945, launched by Mrs. Ruth R. Martin in 5 March 1946, commissioned on 27 November 1946, reclassified CLAA-12 on 18 March 1949, decommissioned on 17 May 1949, stricken April 1965 and sold to be broken up on 17 June 1966. Codename NKEL.

Displacement 6.826 (standard)-8.470 (maximum) tons and as dimensions 165,05 (over all) x 16 x 6,25 (mean)-8,08 (maximum) metres or 541.6 x 53 x 20.6-26.6 feet. The machinery consisted of 4 steam boilers and 2 geared turbines supplying 75.000 shp allowing with her 2 screws a speed of 32,5 knots. Her crew numbered 623 men. The armament consisted of 6x2-12,7cm/5” 38 cal Mark 12 guns, 6x4cm/1.6” quad Bofor anti aircraft guns, 6x4cm/1,6 dual Bofors anti aircraft guns,8-2cm/0.79” dual Oerlikon anti aircraft cannons, 8-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes and 2 depth charge tracks. The armour consisted of a 2,8-9,5cm/1.1-3¾” thick belt, a 3,2cm/1¼”thick deck and gun turrets with the conning tower protected by 6,4cm/2,5” thick armour.
