An item reported captain Chaili Sindhusophon of the Royal Thai Navy Signals Section to Europe especially to Italy. In Italy he wanted to make a deal with the Italian government over the delivery of two cruisers of which the building by Ansaldo, Italy around 10 years earlier and despite the fact that half of the price already was paid still were not delivered. 1. The in 1938 ordered light cruisers Taksin and Naresuan which became respectively Etna and Vesuvio in Italian service. The Taksin was laid down on 23 September 1939 and launched on 28 May 1942 and the Vesuvio on 26 August 1939 respectively 6 August 1941. When in September 1943 Italy surrendered were the hulls of both ships for 53 completed, the ships were scuttled and after salvage in the late 1950s broken up.
