Launched by William Cramp&Sons, Philadelphia, USA with yard number 435 as the Orizaba in February 1917, purchased by the navy as the Orzaba on 11 April 1918, commissioned on 27 May 1918, transferred to the War Department in 1919 and used as US Army transport USAT Orizaba, decommissioned on 4 September 1919, handed over to the original owner the Ward Line and used on the route New York-Cuba-Spain, later New York-Cuba-Mexico, chartered by the United States Line in 1939, sold to the War Department begin 1941, in service until March 1941, refitted at the Bethlehem Steel Company between April-May 1941, purchased by the US Navy on 4 June 1941, commissioned on 15 June 1941, decommissioned on 23 April 1945, stricken on 20 July 1953, call sign NUBY, handed over under the Lend Lease procedure to Brazil on 16 July 1945 and commissioned on the same date, permanent handed over to Brazil in June 1953, converted to training ship in 1953, decommissioned on 13 April 1959, stricken in 1960 and broken up in 1963. Armament in Brazilian service 2-12,7cm/5” cal 38 gun mounts and 12-2cm anti-aircraft gun mounts.
