German unprotected cruiser SMS Seeadler visited the Dutch East in 1899-1900

German gunboat SMS Seeadler (1) visited Makassar (2), Dutch East Indies on 29 December 1899 and Ambon, Moluccas, Dutch East Indies on 5 January 1900.

1. Unprotected cruiser of the Bussard-class, laid down at the Kaiserliche Werft Danzig in 1890, launched on 2 February 1892, commissioned on 17 August 1892 and exploded at Wilhelmshaven, Germany while used as a mine hulk on 19 April 1917.
2. The Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 30 December 1899 reported her arrival in the afternoon of 29 December at Makassar and the governor offered the her etat major in the evening of the 30th a ball. Dutch The newspaper De locomotief dated 17 January 1900 reported that she arrived in the evening of Friday 30th December saluting with 21 shots. Commanded by corvette captain Schack. The German consul Becker embarked the same evening on board. She left on Tuesday morning 3rd January.
