An item referred to the publication Susa Novykh Tipoc dlya Bol’shoy Volgi, written by A.P. Strakhov, Moscow 1954 dealing with new kind of ships to serve on the Volga. The river channel would in the future be changed caused by constructing by hydroelectric power projects and corresponding attendant reservoirs. So in this manner were new types of river ships needed including series building of platform barges. At that moment were already such barges used in many river basins. The cargo was loaded on deck and consisted of coal. Ore, construction materials and even machine equipment with as main condition that it was moisture-proof, At the moments there were barges with the dead weights 300, 400, 600, 800, 1.000 and 1.400 tons built at several plants in series production while using standard assemblies and sections. The classification was Division R USSR Register although with some reinforcement of the hull were the barges suitable for use in reservoir conditions during calm weather. With a comparatively large width was a large deck-load area created and for which purpose also the superstructures were positioned at the stern.
