Chinese communist government needed desperately cargo shipping capacity according to a CIA report dated around 1951-1952

An item reported that the Chinese communist government needed to have at least 17 cargo ships of different type. Needed were :

3-10.000 tons freighters with a speed of 14-16 knots, a full loaded draught of 26 feet and driven by diesels or steam turbines. There was no necessity for passenger accommodation.

2-8.000 tons freighters with a speed of 14 knots, a full loaded draught of 24 feet and driven by steam turbines and coal or crude oil fuelled boilers.

2-6.000 tons freighters with a speed of 14 knots, a full loaded draught of 21 feet and driven by steam turbines and coal or crude oil fuelled boilers.

4-3.000 tons freighters with a speed of 15-16 knots, a length of 310 feet and a full loaded draught of 18 feet and driven by steam turbines and coal or crude oil fuelled boilers. Accommodation for 300-500 passengers was demanded.

2-1.500 tons freighters with a speed of 14 knots, a full loaded draught of 13 feet and driven by steam engines or turbines. Accommodation for 300 passengers was demanded.

4-1.000 tons freighters with a speed of 14 knots, a full loaded draught of 12 feet and driven by steam or diesels. Accommodation for 200-300 passengers was demanded. Just before 7 March 1951 purchased the China Export Corporation a 1.000 tons tanker which was to be converted into a 1.000 cargo vessel to full fill the need for such vessels.
