Norwegian whale catcher Star XVI 1930-


Built by Akers Mek. Verksted, Oslo, Norway for account of Hvalfanger A/S Rosshavet, Sandefjord, Norway and handed over in May 1930. Fitted out with triple steam 800 ihp machinery. Hull was made of steel. Gross tonnage 249 tons and as dimensions 116 (between perpendiculars) x 23.9 x 13.2 feet. She was hired by the Canadian navy between 1941-November 1945 serving as a minesweeper. After the Second World War returned to her owners and added to the floating factory Thorshammer in 1945-1946 and the next seasons to the Ross until she was sold in May 1949. The new owners (Blomvaag Hval A/S, Herdja/Joh.A. Hohem, Bergen, Norway) renamed her Hval III and she served between the summers of 1949-1950 at the whaling station at Blomvåg. Again sold in June 1951 became she the Indus 9 of Cia. Industrial, Valparaiso, Chile active out of Quintay until 1960. In 1962 converted her new owner Soc. Pesquera Ruiz Ltd. Her into the trawler Ruiz III until she was broken up.
